Delhi Airport to Vrindavan: Train, Taxi & Travel Guide

From Delhi Airport, the train route to Vrindavan involves a station transfer, a train to Mathura and a final road journey. A direct taxi offers fewer transfers; compare the complete journey before booking.

Highlights

  • There is no direct Delhi Metro ride to Vrindavan.
  • Check the departure station on your rail ticket: NDLS and NZM are different.
  • Compare all transfer costs with an inclusive taxi quote.

Delhi Airport’s official metro guide connects Terminal 3 with the Airport Express line to New Delhi railway station. It describes the metro leg as approximately 25 minutes; that is not your aircraft-to-train transfer time. For Terminal 2, follow the airport’s current walking or shuttle directions to Terminal 3. Terminal 1 is served by the Magenta Line at Terminal 1–IGI Airport station, with a covered walking connection.

Read the station code on your train booking. New Delhi (NDLS) and Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) are different railway stations. Arriving at the Airport Express’s New Delhi stop does not put you at NZM. Plan a separate connection if your booked train departs elsewhere.

Use the airport and Delhi Metro links below for the current first and last service. Do not assume that the metro runs all night. Check terminal changes against the airline’s arrival information before selecting your transfer.

Step 2: book a mainline train to Mathura

Search your actual travel date and departure station on IRCTC, with Mathura Junction (MTJ) as the destination. Check the station pair, departure time, arrival date, class and reservation status before payment. A convenient route on a map is not proof that a suitable seat is available.

IRCTC has a foreign-tourist booking process for eligible overseas travellers, including passport information and account/mobile verification. Its foreign-tourist quota has separate rules and charges. Read the current terms before choosing it rather than assuming that the fare or cancellation rules match another quota.

Carry the identification required for the booking and a usable copy of your ticket. Recheck the running status and platform information close to departure. We do not list a fixed train fare: class, train, date, quota and booking charges affect the amount you will actually pay.

Step 3: Mathura Junction to Vrindavan

Mathura district’s official guidance places Vrindavan roughly 11–12 km from Mathura. That town-to-town reference is not a measured distance from your platform to your hotel. Your final road journey depends on the exact address, local traffic and access restrictions.

Arrange the last leg with your accommodation or an identified local transport provider. Share the full address and ask whether the vehicle can reach the entrance. If access is restricted near a temple or busy lane, establish the walking distance before accepting the ride.

Keep a small arrival checklist: accommodation phone number, an offline address, a meeting point, a confirmed total fare and a way to contact the driver. If you arrive after dark, a confirmed pickup is easier to manage than negotiating an unfamiliar last-mile journey while tired.

Planning your visit

Choose by arrival time, luggage and transfers

OptionJourneyPlanning trade-off
Metro + train + roadAirport → booked Delhi station → Mathura Junction → VrindavanSeveral tickets and luggage transfers; useful when a suitable train is available.
Intercity taxiAirport pickup → your Vrindavan accommodationFewer transfers; get an inclusive quote and check the actual drop-off point.
Overnight in DelhiAirport → hotel → onward travel next dayA practical fallback after a late arrival or an unsuitable connection.

Do not book a tight train connection from your scheduled aircraft landing time. Immigration, baggage collection, terminal transfers and the railway-station approach all take time. Choose a buffer that you can afford to lose, especially on separate bookings.

Direct taxi: what the quote needs to include

Delhi Airport lists round-the-clock terminal taxi options, including prepaid and app-based services. This does not guarantee an immediate intercity vehicle to Vrindavan or a universal fare. Confirm the provider’s current pickup instructions for your terminal; pickup bays can differ by service.

  • Vehicle type, passenger capacity and realistic luggage space.
  • Airport parking or pickup fees, tolls, taxes and any driver allowance.
  • One-way pricing, minimum billing, return charges and waiting after a delayed flight.
  • Your exact destination, permitted drop-off point and cancellation conditions.
  • Driver identification and the contact to use if the flight or pickup changes.

Compare complete quotes, not just an advertised per-kilometre amount. We have not verified a single government-set airport-to-Vrindavan intercity fare, so no fixed taxi price or guaranteed journey time is presented here.

Build a budget without a misleading headline fare

For the train route, add three items: the airport-to-station transfer, the reserved rail ticket and the Mathura-to-Vrindavan road journey. Add food, optional luggage handling and any overnight stay separately. For a taxi, use the provider’s written all-inclusive quote and retain its exclusions.

If you need step-free travel, ask each operator about the complete journey: terminal transfer, station entrance, platform access, boarding assistance and the final vehicle. One accessible segment does not establish an accessible route from end to end.

For darshan planning, first settle your arrival and accommodation. Then verify the specific Vrindavan temple’s current schedule; train availability and temple access are separate checks.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the Delhi Metro go directly to Vrindavan?

No. The metro can cover part of the Delhi transfer. The rail itinerary then requires a mainline train to Mathura and a final road journey.

Which station should I select for the Mathura rail leg?

Check Mathura Junction (MTJ) as the destination, then verify your train’s Delhi departure station and date. Do not confuse New Delhi (NDLS) with Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM).

Is a taxi always cheaper than the train route?

There is no universal answer. Compare an inclusive taxi quote for your group with all transfer and rail costs, rather than comparing only one rail ticket with a taxi headline price.

Can I book a train immediately after my scheduled landing?

Avoid a tight connection. Immigration, baggage collection, terminal changes and the station approach can all add time.

Are quoted fares and seats live on this page?

No. Check IRCTC for the selected train and ask the taxi operator for a written quote covering your date, luggage and destination.
