- TTD confirmed the golden chariot procession on October 19.
- Chakra Snanam is scheduled for October 20 at 6 am IST.
- Festival darshan changes affect specified privileged services.
The golden chariot moved through Tirumala’s Mada streets on Monday, 19 October 2026, the eighth day of the Navaratri Brahmotsavam. In its same-day report, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) confirmed that Sri Malayappa Swamy, with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, was carried in the procession. Its Telugu account places the start at 7 am IST.
TTD described devotees pulling the chariot amid devotional music and Govinda chants, with women participating in large numbers. Malayappa Swamy is the processional form associated with Lord Venkateswara: the report concerns the festival deities taken through the streets.
For readers following from elsewhere in India or overseas, this is a completed morning event. The remaining programme should be read by its exact calendar date, rather than by an undated “today” message.
What comes next on October 19 and 20?
TTD’s published programme lists Ashwa Vahanam from 7 pm to 9 pm on 19 October. Chakra Snanam follows on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at 6 am. These are scheduled ritual times in Indian Standard Time (UTC+5:30).
The October 10 reminder confirms the closing date; its Telugu programme also gives the 6 am time, matching the September 27 announcement. A scheduled ritual time does not tell an individual pilgrim when a viewing area opens or how long entry will take. Check the latest TTD notice and local directions before setting out.
What does Chakra Snanam mean?
Chakra Snanam is a sacred bathing ritual associated with Sri Sudarshana Chakrattalwar. TTD’s accounts of the Tirumala observance describe the ceremonial dip in the waters of Swamy Pushkarini, the temple tank. In the Brahmotsavam programme it marks the closing day’s principal observance.
The September 25 TTD account linked below explains the practice during a separate religious occasion at the same shrine. It supplies ritual context; the October programme supplies the date for this festival. Devotees understand the sacred bath through faith and worship. It should not be presented as a guaranteed material or health outcome.
Why September and October dates both appear
TTD’s 2026 booklet announcement lists two celebrations: Salakatla Brahmotsavams from September 15–23 and Navaratri Brahmotsavams from October 12–20. The October programme connects this arrangement with the additional lunar month, or Adhika Masa.
There is also a programme difference. TTD says the October Navaratri celebration does not include Dhwajarohanam, the large wooden chariot or Dhwajavarohanam. The golden chariot seen on October 19 belongs to the October programme. Copying September’s closing events into the October timetable can therefore mislead visitors.
Planning your visit
Check the festival’s darshan changes before travelling
A dated TTD notice announced the cancellation of VIP Break and privileged darshans from October 11–20, with an exception for protocol VIPs. The affected privileged categories include senior citizens, people with disabilities, parents with infants, NRIs and defence personnel.
This is a change to specified darshan arrangements. Check your actual service and booking through TTD’s official booking portal. The notice also announced an earlier release of ₹300 Special Entry Darshan tickets; that past release does not establish availability now.
Watching a street procession, attending a tank-side ritual and entering a temple darshan queue involve different arrangements. Ask staff which route applies to your visit. International pilgrims should confirm their own eligibility and document requirements rather than relying on the usual NRI service during the announced suspension.
Plan the early start from Tirupati
Tirupati is the arrival city; Tirumala is the hill destination. TTD’s travel guide describes onward travel by road and identifies Tirupati as the rail gateway, with the airport near Renigunta. Allow a separate transfer to the hills when planning an early-morning ritual.
If arriving late on October 19, confirm your transport and accommodation before departure. Leave time for the hill journey, belongings and finding the permitted viewing area. Ask about steps, crowd management and assistance if travelling with children, older relatives or anyone with limited mobility.
Confirm current services with your transport operator and avoid a tight onward connection after the ritual. This report does not provide live train or flight availability, a waiting-time estimate, or a newly verified traffic-diversion route.
