Highlights
- The announcement concerns Shree Keshav Ram Leela in Pitampura.
- The cockroach effigy is described as a symbol of unclean surroundings.
- This is an announced plan, not a report of a completed burning.
A PTI report published by NDTV on 15 October says the Shree Keshav Ram Leela Committee plans to burn the insect-shaped effigy alongside Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad. The organisers describe it as a symbol of unclean surroundings and connect it with the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Delhi cleanliness campaigns.
This is an announced plan, not a report that the burning has already taken place. It concerns an artificial effigy, not a living insect. A dramatic image circulating before the event is not proof of the finished installation or its eventual appearance.
Is this part of the Ramayana story?
For visitors unfamiliar with the setting, Ramlila is a theatrical presentation of the Ramayana. UNESCO’s description refers to performances combining singing, narration, recitation and dialogue. The festival setting is cultural and devotional; it is more than an unusual photo opportunity.
The cockroach announcement should not be presented as a newly discovered episode of the epic or a ritual followed at every Dussehra celebration. It is a contemporary addition explained by this particular committee.
There is also a political backdrop. The Tribune reports the announcement alongside Cockroach Janata Party protests and says committee president Ashok Goel denied a political motive. The cleanliness explanation is therefore the organisers’ stated position, not an independently established conclusion about their intentions.
Which Delhi Ramlila is this?
The reports identify Shree Keshav Ram Leela in Pitampura. An indexed Indian Express account of the organiser’s statement also identifies NSP, or Netaji Subhash Place. Do not confuse it with a Red Fort celebration or assume every place labelled “Ramlila Ground” on a map is the same venue.
RouteTales planning advice: ask your host or the committee to confirm the current venue pin and visitor entrance. Save the committee name as well as the location. A familiar neighbourhood name does not establish which gate will be open on the night.
Planning your visit
Date, entry and timings: what is actually confirmed?
A 15 June Tribune report records Delhi’s Shri Ramlila Mahasangh announcing 20 October 2026 for Dussehra. That city-level announcement is useful context, but it is not a current, gate-by-gate programme for this Pitampura event.
As of our 16 October check, we have not independently verified the committee’s latest detailed schedule, the exact effigy-burning time, admission charges, passes or reserved seating. Its website could not be retrieved during our research. Reconfirm the local date and time before travelling. We do not offer tickets or claim live availability.
Avoid building an itinerary around an unverified “6 pm” or “7 pm” time found in a repost. If you are flying into Delhi that day, allow for arrival procedures and hotel check-in rather than treating the evening as a guaranteed connection.
Planning the journey via Netaji Subhash Place
DMRC’s indexed official interchange information lists Netaji Subhash Place on Line 1 (Red) and Line 7 (Pink). Use the official Delhi Metro route planner for your starting station. The direct interchange page returned a JavaScript shell during our check, so we are not presenting a verified current exit-gate list.
Ask station staff which exit suits the event’s open entrance. We have not verified an exact walking distance, step-free route from station to venue, or a guaranteed journey time. Check your return train in your direction separately; this article does not establish a special late-night Metro extension.
If taking a taxi, agree on a permitted drop-off and a separate return meeting point. Reaching the neighbourhood is not the same as being dropped at the gate. Event-specific parking fees and road restrictions remain unverified here.
A calmer visit: your pre-departure checklist
- Confirm the event: committee name, venue pin, local date, entry conditions and the current programme.
- Confirm the return: last suitable Metro connection or an agreed pickup away from any closed approach.
- Plan for companions: choose a meeting point, carry a contact number and keep children together.
- Respect the viewing boundary: stay behind barriers and away from effigies, cables and temporary structures. Do not block exits while filming.
- Ask about access needs: seating, toilets, the walking surface and the complete route from the drop-off. Station accessibility does not prove the entire event is step-free.
- Check before sharing: distinguish a planned event from completed footage and an AI illustration from a photograph.
These are RouteTales’ practical suggestions, not a published admission policy. For a visitor, the best plan is one that leaves room to change course when local arrangements differ.
